For the upcoming all new 2011 Hyundai Sonata (2010 model in Korea) the V6 engine will no longer be available as an option. Ward’s Autoworld found out that instead the 2011 Sonata will have a modified version of Hyundai’s Theta 4 Cylinder engine featuring GDI (Gasoline Direct Injection). Hyundai will be the first automaker to have a GDI engine standard in the midsize-sedan segment. According to Hyundai 85% of of Sonatas sold features the 2.4L I-4, with the rest being fitted with the optional 3.3L V-6.
The Hyundai Tuscon will also lose the V6 engine as an option and will most likely receive the same modified Theta engine.
