In celebration of 50 years since the IIHS was founded they performed a study to show how far safety in vehicles has improved. To demonstrate they took a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu and a 1959 Chevrolet Bel-Air and decided to perform a head on crash. The results speak for themselves. The driver of the modern vehicle would have escaped with relatively few injuries, unfortunately the driver of the 1959 Bel-Air would have been seriously injured or possibly have died. Safety should be a top concern when shopping for a vehicle for your family. A video of the crash by the IIHS is available after the jump.
